My Journey...

As a student at Huffman High School, I discovered a love for music which led me to the University of Montevallo, where I received a Bachelor of Music Education degree.  After teaching for several years in Birmingham City Schools, I followed a call to ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church and went to Candler School of Theology at Emory University, in Atlanta where I received a Master of Divinity degree.  After 15 years leading and teaching in churches I felt a call back to education but with a new focus on special education.  I went to Samford University and received a Master of Science in Secondary Collaborative (Special) Education.

I began my Special Education career as an Education Specialist at the DMH Adolescent Education Program at UAB.  I have taught in Jefferson and Blount Counties before finding my way to the Promised Land of Leeds High School, where I help our student discover their strengths and talents as they succeed every day.  It is my desire that they discover their potential, hopes, and dreams for the future.  It is then my privilege to empower and enable them to reach that potential and make a difference in this world.

My wife, Terri, and I have two daughters, Heather who is a senior at the University of Alabama, and Holly who is a senior at Leeds High School and two Australian Shepherd puppies that are trying to literally eat the house.  We are members of Church of the Highlands, attending the Grants Mill campus.  I sing with, and occasionally direct the Leeds Community Chorus.
